A useful guide for visitors providing information on birds in this area and where and when to find them, including interesting notes on migration and feeding. This second edition includes updated text revisions by Anthea and Jim Whitelaw and more illustrations by Anthea. Most of the birds are in their non-breeding plumage when in Australia - that is, usually shades of white, grey and black.

Jenny Watts, a teacher with young children of her own, knew from first-hand experience how to interest children, their teachers and parents in the local environment. With 16 activity sheets and lots of background information, this book does not require special scientific or environmental knowledge for its use. Much admired by visiting teachers.

Trees of South Gippsland, Mary Ellis (2002) $20
This survey of trees in South Gippsland is a valuable contribution to the knowledge of significant trees in Victoria. With Dick Lester's original work and nominations from the public, the register was completed in 2001 and covers exotic, Australian and remnant trees, including the mighty Mountain Ash, a rare Shining Peppermint, important palm plantings and the outstanding collection of exotic trees at Mossvale Park. More than 175 trees were recorded, measured and photographed. The book gives information about the trees and the history of growing them, with line drawings and photographs for identification. Includes all locally indigenous species.
