The South Gippsland Conservation Society (SGCS) offers a range of educational programs through Bunurong Coast Education (BCE)

Opportunities for learning

A visit to South Gippsland's coastal areas and the Bunurong Environment Centre provides an ideal learning experience for students at all levels, tourists, community members and families

The variety of ecosystems and the biodiversity within these ecosystems enable students to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the fragile and diverse communities along the Bass Coast.

Rapid development in this environmentally sensitive area as well as the significant geological and paleontological sites along our coastline allows teachers to adopt interdisciplinary curriculum approaches.

BCE programs

Our part-time Education Officers provide programs for all year levels, P-12. These can be tailor-made to suit individual schools' needs.

We can cater for groups of up to 150 students at a time although with smaller groups there's more time for each activity.

Professional development for teachers is also available.

Our approach is through immersion in the environment - that is, hands-on involvement and activity-based learning.

Programs are conducted on-site through nature-based field trips and excursions, in school classrooms, or at the Bunurong Environment Centre in Inverloch.
